Habitat for Humanity Maui Awarded Neighborhood Grant from The Starbucks Foundation — This grant recognizes community impact the organization has in affordable housing.
WAILUKU, HI (June 17, 2024) – As part of The Starbucks Foundation’s Neighborhood Grants program, Habitat for Humanity Maui was selected to receive a $6,000 grant. This grant award is thanks to a nomination(s) from a local Starbucks partner (employee) who recognized the work of Habitat Maui in affordable housing. Through this unique program, The Starbucks Foundation invites Starbucks partners and alumni to nominate a local organization in their community. Since 2019, more than 13,000 grants have been awarded to local organizations, amounting to more than $20 million. This year, Habitat Maui was selected from 33,000 nominations submitted by Starbucks partners in February 2024.
Habitat for Humanity Maui focuses on building and renovating homes for low-income families in Maui County. The grant from The Starbucks Foundation will support our housing programs, which aim to construct new homes and repair existing ones to ensure they are safe and livable. This funding will contribute to purchasing materials, recruiting skilled labor, and engaging volunteers, enabling us to provide more affordable housing solutions to those in need. Our mission is to eliminate substandard housing and homelessness on Maui, promoting hope for all residents.
“We are incredibly grateful to The Starbucks Foundation and the local Starbucks partners who nominated us for this grant,” said Max Tornai, Director of Development at Habitat for Humanity Maui. “This support will allow us to continue our vital work in the community, helping more families achieve the dream of homeownership and foster stronger, more stable neighborhoods.”
The Starbucks Foundation’s Neighborhood Grants program supports grassroots, community-led nonprofit organizations through catalytic investments in the form of grants. Neighborhood Grants also help build sustained local impact and inspire increased partner (employee) engagement with nonprofit organizations that work in their communities.
“Our partners (employees) know their communities best, and have shared great insights about the organizations helping to uplift others in their neighborhoods, from supporting youth and families to fighting hunger and promoting environmental stewardship,” said Alicia Vermaele, executive director of The Starbucks Foundation. “Through our latest round of Neighborhood Grants, we’re proud to support our local organizations nominated by Starbucks partners who make our communities stronger.”
