Habitat Maui’s “A Brush with Kindness” (aka ABWK) program helps underserved homeowners struggling to maintain their homes, allowing them to reclaim their homes with pride and dignity. The program works in conjunction with our existing core program enabling us to serve more families while increasing volunteer opportunities and expanding our base of sponsors.
ABWK helps revitalize the appearance of neighborhoods, strengthens connections within the community, and helps preserve affordable housing stock. ABWK services are relatively small projects consisting of exterior work such as painting, patching, minor repair, landscaping, or replacement of materials for the purposes of maintaining good and sound condition. Other types of projects could be considered as Weatherization such as interior and exterior work, replacement of windows and doors, caulking/foaming cracks and gaps, insulating openings, attics, crawl spaces, and insulating walls. Still other types of projects could be considered as Critical Home Repair such as extensive siding and trim repair/replacement, major roof repair or replacement, porch or wheelchair ramp construction, installation of heating, electrical, or plumbing, floor and wall replacement, and foundation repair.
Estimated completion time could range from 1 day to 1 week or more. Inspections will be made by experienced Project Managers and assessments will be completed and prioritized based on review and condition of the home.
