Volunteering

Home Build Program
Our Saturday Home Build Program takes place each week from 9 am to 4 pm. Currently we are building 2 homes. One is upcountry in in Kula (Yap family) and the other is in Wailuku (Waiehu Kou IV Subdivision). If you have basic tools, hammer, nail apron, tape measure and a pencil then please bring those items. Please label all of your tools with your name. For special projects, like painting we will give you information on what you can bring. No specific skills, except a willingness to learn, are needed. Habitat provides an experienced site manager on each work site who will provide job training. If you do have specific skills we would like to know in advance to assist us in deciding for which project you would be most effective. Give us a call at least a day in advance and we will assign you to the work site that needs you the most. Directions to current build sites are available online.

Construction volunteer requirements

Minimum age is 16 for active construction site.
Parental permission required for 14 -17 yrs old.
Volunteers under 18 must not use power tools, climb ladders, or work on scaffolding or the roof
14 & 15 year olds can volunteer at inactive work sites

"This has been a long time coming. Thank you so much for arranging my construction experience in Maui. Everyone was wonderful. I learned a lot about sheet-rock/drywall installation. In Portland we had professionals do that work. However, shortly after arriving home I found out that a decision had been made to do our own sheet-rocking and have professionals do the taping.

The tasty native foods for lunch were delicious and the site supervisors were openly willing to teach. Many thanks to everyone involved for my day on site. I felt a very nice connection with Kehau too. I will be sending off some pictures to her."

ReStore
Our ReStore in Wailuku is currently opened 6 days each week. Volunteers are needed to assist with retail operations; sales, receiving, stocking, cleaning. No experience is needed. We receive donations of new and used building materials. Hours of operation Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm. If you are interested in working a few hours each week, give us a call: 986-8050.
