Habitat for Humanity Maui’s ReStore accepts donations of new and slightly used construction/ remodeling materials and resells them to the general public at 50% or below retail. The ReStore is located at 399 N. Market Street in Happy Valley, Wailuku. We are open Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm. The proceeds from the ReStore go directly to the building of Habitat homes here on Maui.
Habitat ReStores are not unique to Hawaii. Back in the early 1990’s, the Habitat Winnipeg affiliate was receiving donations of building materials that they couldn’t use in their simple, decent Habitat homes and began reselling them to the public. Since then, there are over 650 ReStores in North America, one in New Zealand and five in Hawaii.
Maui’s ReStore had a container sale in May of 2004 to see the feasibility of opening an outlet for resalable construction/remodeling materials. Due to its success, Habitat leased the former T. K. Supermarket in January 2005 and held the ReStore’s grand opening in May of that year. Starting at 2,000 square feet, the ReStore quickly ran out of space. In the summer of 2006, the ReStore not only extended the store hours but expanded to 4,500 square feet. Currently the ReStore is looking to open an even larger location.
Private individuals, businesses and contractors are encouraged to donate their left over residential building materials and overstocked, discontinued merchandise. Making a donation to the ReStore not only benefits Habitat for Humanity Maui but also diverts usable materials from the landfill. To make a tax deductible donation, call 986-8050.
Volunteers are needed to assist with customers and donors, pricing, stocking and cleaning at the ReStore. No experience necessary. Wear comfortable clothes and closed toed shoes. We request a minimum of two hours per shift anytime between 9 am to 4pm, Monday through Saturday. Schedule to be a volunteer by calling 986-8050.
